What is an Interior Designer?
Which is best for you?
Whether you should hire an interior decorator or designer depends entirely on your project. Are you removing a wall, moving plumbing, or installing cabinets, doors, or windows? An interior designer would be your biggest help. Are you simply choosing wallpaper, paint color, lighting, or furnishings? An interior decorator would be your best choice. Decide who to hire based on your needs and their qualifications.
Hiring the best professionals for your plans and budget will save you time, money, and unnecessary stress so you can enjoy the process from beginning to beautiful end!
An Interior Designer Must Have:
- Completed a program in Interior Design or Architecture from a university accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
- Passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam.
- Registered or become certified or licensed based on state qualifications. Only 25 states currently require state registration, certification, or licensure. Find out which state departments are responsible for overseeing interior design practice.
- Though not a requirement for registered designers, The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is an impressive network of people in the field from designers to industry representatives, educators, and students.
